The earliest identified use of wind energy is the crusing ship; the earliest report of a ship underneath sail is that of a Nile boat relationship to the 8th-millennium BCE. From prehistoric instances, Egyptians most likely used the power of the annual flooding of the Nile to irrigate their lands, steadily learning to regulate much of it by way of purposely built irrigation channels and "catch" basins. The ancient Sumerians in Mesopotamia used a fancy system of canals and levees to divert water from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers for irrigation. It has helped develop more advanced economies (including right now's world economy) and has allowed the rise of a leisure class. Many technological processes produce unwanted by-products generally recognized as pollution and deplete natural resources to the detriment of Earth's environment.
